Norwalk is the metro's commuter town. It sits just south of the Des Moines airport on the Warren County side of the line, and every weekday morning nearly six in ten of its workers drive out of the county, up Highway 28 and onto Highway 5, to jobs in Des Moines and West Des Moines. That is a higher share than any other city we serve. The town has grown by more than half since 2010, from about 8,900 people to more than 14,000, and most of the newcomers arrived from somewhere else in Iowa.
The houses they bought are big, new, and owned. Four in ten Norwalk homes have four or more bedrooms, one in three was built since 2010, and more than four in five are owner-occupied. Nearly four in ten households have kids at home, and about one in five workers now works from home. Put that together and the typical Norwalk cleaning job is a 2000s or 2010s two-story that is empty from seven to six, or has one parent on a video call in the office upstairs.
We are a locally owned company run by Stephanie and Tony Dacey, based in Urbandale, about 25 minutes from Norwalk. Diamond House Cleaning is locally owned and fully insured, and every cleaner who enters your home is background-checked.
Empty from seven to six: how we clean in a commuter town
Most of our Norwalk clients are not home when we arrive. That changes how we schedule, how we get in, and what a good visit looks like.
When six in ten workers leave the county each morning, the cleaning has to happen without you. Our Norwalk clients leave a garage code, a lockbox, or a back-door key, and we keep the same crew on the same house so nobody has to be re-briefed on the dog, the alarm, or which room is off limits. The house is clean and locked before you are back on Highway 28.
The other Norwalk household is the one that never leaves. About one in five Norwalk workers works from home, and we have learned to clean around a workday: office and the quiet rooms first, the kitchen while you are on a break, vacuums off during the call you told us about. Tell us what your day looks like and we will build the visit around it.
The most common Norwalk house has three or four bedrooms, two or three bathrooms, and was built after 2000. We are in and out on a weekday while you are at work, with a garage code or a lockbox, and you come home to a finished house. Every-other-week is the plan most of these households land on.
One in five Norwalk workers is home all day. We start upstairs or in the office, whichever you are not using, keep the noisy work away from your calls, and text before we run the vacuum on your floor. You do not have to pause your day to have a clean house.
Nearly three in ten Norwalk homes were built between 1960 and 1989, most of them in the lake and golf-course neighborhoods that were annexed in 1989. More wood, older tile, smaller bathrooms, and a first deep clean that takes longer than it will on a new build. We know the difference and plan the first visit for it.
Not sure which one you are? Tell us the address and what a normal weekday looks like. We will know.

Norwalk has grown in rings, and each ring cleans a little differently. Here is where we are most often.
Lakewood and Echo Valley
Lakewood started in 1965 around man-made Lake Colchester, with about 600 homes on the south shore, and Echo Valley followed in the early 1970s around the Echo Valley Country Club course. Both were annexed into Norwalk on the same day in 1989. These are the oldest large neighborhoods in town: ranches, split-levels, and two-stories with more wood and more character than the newer subdivisions, and a first deep clean that earns its keep.
The Legacy, Sunset Estates, and Shadow Creek
The Legacy took over the old Colonial Meadows ground along Highway 28 and grew into an 18-hole golf course community with more than 900 homes across a wide range of budgets, with Sunset Estates to the north and Shadow Creek to the south. Big 2000s and 2010s two-stories with three or more bathrooms and open kitchens, plus a townhome pocket in Shadow Creek. Most of our recurring work in Norwalk is here.
Orchard Hills, Valley View, and Holland Pointe
The south side is single-family houses with a few townhome and duplex streets, bordered by the McAninch Sports Complex and its 23 soccer fields. Holland Pointe, south of Beardsley Street next to Elizabeth Holland Park and its stocked pond, is the newest of the three. Family houses with a practice schedule on the fridge, which is exactly what our recurring plan is built for.
Warrior Run, Windflower, the west side, and the Founder's District
The southeast corner holds Warrior Run, Brody's Landing, Rolling Green, and Windflower, the last of them annexed in 1977 on the old Willison farm. On the west side, Timber View, Timber Ridge, Silverado, and Blooming Heights add about 450 homes along G14 and 50th Avenue. And the Founder's District around Main Street and North Street holds Norwalk's oldest houses, the ones that were here when the town was one square mile.
It does not matter which part of the city you are in, or which side of the county line. If you are in Norwalk, we cover you.
The services Norwalk households book most
Recurring cleaning, weekly or every other week
The core of our Norwalk work, and the plan built for a house that is empty all day. Our recurring cleaning clients get the same crew each visit and a standing weekday slot, so the garage code and the dog's name only have to be explained once. Nearly four in ten Norwalk households have kids at home, and we schedule around school pickups, practices at McAninch, and shift work.
Deep cleaning for big newer homes
Four in ten Norwalk homes have four or more bedrooms, and most of them have three or more bathrooms to match. A deep cleaning is where we recommend starting in any house you did not get to clean empty: inside the oven and fridge, glass shower doors and grout, baseboards, ceiling fans, window tracks, and the tops of the cabinets that a two-story has more of. Most clients do it once, then move to recurring.
Move-in and move-out cleaning
About one in six Norwalk residents moved in the past year, and most of them came from another county in Iowa. Our move out cleaning is done to the standard a buyer's walkthrough or a landlord inspection actually expects: inside appliances, inside cabinets, baseboards, window tracks, and every bathroom. The same clean, done the day before the boxes arrive, is the best start a new house can get.
Townhome and apartment cleaning
About one in ten Norwalk homes is an attached townhome, and one in eight is in a building of five or more units, from the Shadow Creek and Hughes Century Crossing townhomes to the newer apartment buildings along Highway 28. Our apartment cleaning is priced by the rooms you have, not a flat rate, and our $125 minimum covers most one- and two-bedroom units in full.
Why Norwalk households hire us
Norwalk is on the far side of the airport and the county line from most Des Moines cleaning companies. For us it is a regular weekday stop.
- We cross the county line. Our team is based in Urbandale, about 25 minutes away. Norwalk is on our schedule every week, not a special request, and there is no travel fee. You reach us at 515-513-3187, not a call center.
- We work while you are at work. Six in ten Norwalk workers leave the county every day. We are used to garage codes, lockboxes, back-door keys, and a note on the counter, and the house is locked when we leave.
- We work around the ones who stay. One in five Norwalk workers is home all day. We clean around calls and quiet hours instead of through them.
- We price the house you have. Bathroom count and condition move the price more than square footage does. A three-bath two-story costs more than a two-bed townhome, and we will tell you the number before we start.
- We are insured and background-checked. Every cleaner is vetted before they set foot in a client's house, townhome, or apartment.
- You get the same crew. Wherever possible we keep the same cleaners on the same home. That familiarity is most of what makes recurring service worth paying for.
- No contracts. Reschedule, skip a visit, or change your plan whenever you need to. We never charge a cancellation fee.
What it costs
We do not publish a single flat rate for Norwalk because a 1960s ranch on Lake Colchester, a townhome in Shadow Creek, and a four-bedroom, three-bath two-story in The Legacy are not the same job. What we do publish is our actual math: $50 per hour with a $125 minimum, estimated by the number of rooms and the type of clean.
Here is the honest version for Norwalk. Four in ten homes here have four or more bedrooms, and the bathrooms that come with them are what move the price. A three-bath house takes longer than a one-bath house of the same size, and a first visit takes longer than the fifth. A two-bedroom townhome, on the other hand, often lands at or near the $125 minimum. We will tell you which you are up front rather than after the fact. There is no travel fee for Norwalk.
First-time clients get 50% off the second cleaning when the first is booked. No promo code, no catch.
