Old houses need a different kind of clean
Des Moines has one of the oldest housing stocks in the state. Our crews spend most of their week in homes that are 60, 80, or 100 years old, and that changes how we work.
A 1920s Beaverdale foursquare has more surface to clean than its square footage suggests. Picture rails, deep window casings, radiators, built-in china cabinets, transoms over the doors, and original woodwork on every stair and frame. Dust settles on all of it, in profiles a flat modern baseboard never has. The plaster underneath the paint marks more easily than drywall, and hundred-year-old hardwood does not want the same products a laminate floor will take without complaint.

The famous "Beaverdale Brick" homes went up from 1938, and most of the neighborhood's 143 blocks were built between 1920 and 1940. Brick exteriors, plaster interiors, original hardwood, and deep trim throughout. Some of our most regular work in the city.
Sherman Hill and the west-side historic districts
Sherman Hill, the city's first local historic district, is 210 Victorian and early-1900s structures from around 1880 on. Nearby Owl's Head and Woodland Heights are similar: Colonial Revival, Queen Anne, bungalows. Beautiful, demanding houses.
Drake, Waveland Park, and Highland Park
Waveland Park is 1,500 households of 1920s-30s bungalows and foursquares. Drake is turn-of-the-century homes around the university. Highland Park is an 1880s streetcar suburb of modest early-century homes. All mid-century or older, all on recurring schedules.
Downtown, the Historic East Village, and the newer stock
Downtown and the Historic East Village are the exception: lofts, condos, and apartments, many built since the 1990s. Faster to clean, higher turnover, and where most of our move-out work in the city happens. We also cover the post-war ranches of Merle Hay, Union Park, and the area locals call South of Grand.
