At Diamond House Cleaning, we often refer to our recurring clients as our “VIPs.” To us, that is much more than a marketing phrase. It represents a philosophy Stephanie and I care deeply about as owners of this company.
In so many businesses today, customers are treated like numbers. Loyalty often means very little. Many companies seem far more focused on chasing the next sale than taking care of the people who already trust them. We never wanted to build a company that operates that way.
From the beginning, our goal has been to create something truly special: a company built around relationships, consistency, trust, and doing right by people. Ironically, we do this without asking our clients to legally commit to us through a contract. Our clients can end service with us any time. They stay with us because they want to, not because they are forced to.
But while we do not require commitment from our clients, we believe very strongly in making a commitment to them. Over the past month, we had several situations that perfectly demonstrated what being a Diamond House Cleaning VIP actually means.
We Turned Down Business to Protect Our Recurring Clients
Recently, someone contacted us needing a deep cleaning on very short notice before listing photos for the sale of their home. We completely understood the urgency. The problem was that our schedule was already extremely tight. Trying to squeeze in another large project would have created a very real risk of negatively impacting one or more of our recurring clients. So despite wanting to help, and despite the prospective client being very persistent, we declined.
Not because we didn’t care, and not because we enjoy turning down business, but because our responsibility is first and foremost to the people who already trust us with their homes on a recurring basis. We never want our recurring clients wondering if they are going to be pushed aside simply because a new opportunity appeared. Loyalty only matters if it still exists when it is put to the test.
We Show Up When It Actually Matters
Around that same time, one of our recurring clients reached out only one week before hosting a graduation party and needed to move up their scheduled cleaning. We understood immediately what was really at stake. When you are welcoming family and guests into your home for an important life event, you want your home looking its absolute best. Not only did we accommodate the scheduling change, but our team went above and beyond to make sure the home was thoroughly cleaned and guest-ready.
We also had a situation where we had tentatively discussed a large project with a prospective client, one that would have required several team members over a very tight time frame. Communication went quiet for a few days, and when schedule changes started occurring, we moved on without hesitation. Some businesses may view that as a lost opportunity. We view it as honoring our commitment.
What VIP Status Actually Looks Like
That is what being a Diamond House Cleaning VIP means.
- Preferred scheduling whenever possible
- Preferred cleaner consistency whenever possible
- Flexibility when life happens
- Grace when plans change
- Knowing that your home is genuinely important to us
That same philosophy also shapes how we handle cancellations. We continue to have clients occasionally cancel at the last minute. While many companies jump immediately to fees, penalties, and strict policies, that has never been the route we wanted to take. Cancellations are not ideal for our schedule, but relationships matter more to us than trying to win every short-term transactional moment.
Life happens. Kids get sick. Travel changes. Family emergencies come up. Schedules become chaotic. We understand that because we are real people too.
What We Are Actually Building Here
At the end of the day, we are not trying to build the largest cleaning company possible. We are trying to build the best one we possibly can.
One where people feel cared for. One where trust matters. One where relationships matter. And one where the people who commit to us truly know they are valued.
Because without our VIPs, there is no Diamond House Cleaning. And we never forget that.
