- ~30,000Iowa State students
- Jul 31When most leases end
- Aug 1When most move-ins start
Ames runs on a different calendar than the rest of Iowa. In a city of about 66,000 people, roughly 30,000 are Iowa State students, and that single fact shapes almost everything, including when houses need cleaning.
Diamond House Cleaning serves Ames year-round: faculty households in Old Town, families near Ada Hayden, professionals commuting to Mary Greeley or the ISU Research Park, and landlords turning over units in the first week of August.
We are locally owned and fully insured, and every cleaner who enters your home is background-checked.
The August turnover, and why booking early matters
If you own, rent, or manage property in Ames, you already know what the end of July looks like.
Most Ames leases end July 31, with new move-ins landing anywhere from August 1 through August 23. That leaves a very narrow window to get a unit emptied, cleaned, repaired, and re-inspected before the next tenant's key turns.
It is the busiest cleaning week in the city, and it is entirely predictable.
A proper move-out clean is usually the difference between getting your deposit back and arguing about it. We handle the full move-out standard: inside appliances, inside cabinets, baseboards, window tracks, and bathrooms cleaned to inspection level.
We can schedule multiple units across the turnover window. If you manage several properties, tell us in June and we will block the time.
You should not start a lease cleaning up after the last tenant. A move-in clean takes a few hours and resets the place completely.
Book turnover week by early July. We fill that window every year, and once it is gone it is gone.
Call 515-513-3187Two very different kinds of Ames homes
Ames housing splits more sharply than most Iowa cities, and the cleaning work splits with it.
Old Town
A twelve-block historic district of homes built between the 1870s and the mid-1920s, listed on the National Register in 2004. Italianate, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, bungalows. These houses are beautiful and they are demanding to clean: original woodwork, deep trim profiles, radiators, transoms, and a century of settled dust in places no modern build has. We clean them carefully and we do not rush them.
Campustown
Dense with student apartments along Welch Avenue, and the opposite job: high turnover, hard-wearing surfaces, and a strict deadline.
Somerset & Ada Hayden
The planned village north of campus and the newer neighborhoods around Ada Hayden Heritage Park are the middle ground: family homes on recurring schedules.
South Ames & Story County
We serve all of it, including the outlying acreages beyond the city limits.
The services Ames households book most
Recurring cleaning, weekly or every other week
The steady backbone of our Ames work. Popular with two-income households, ISU faculty and staff, and anyone whose semester schedule leaves no margin.
Move-out and move-in cleaning
Ames's signature service, for the reasons above. Deposit-level detail, done to a deadline.
Deep cleaning
Best before hosting, at the end of a semester, or as a reset for a home that has not had a thorough clean in a while. In Old Town homes this is often the first thing we recommend before starting recurring service.
Semester-timed cleaning
Some clients only want us during the academic year and pause over the summer. That is a perfectly normal way to work with us, and we will hold your spot.
Why Ames clients stay with us
- We are local to central Iowa, not a national franchise. You get the same crew, and they learn your home.
- Insured and background-checked. Non-negotiable, whether we are in a faculty home or turning over a rental.
- We keep deadlines. In a city where an entire rental market changes hands in a three-week window, showing up on the agreed day is the whole job. We do.
- No contracts. Reschedule, skip a visit, or pause over the summer. You are never locked in.
What it costs
$50 per hour, $125 minimum, estimated by room count and clean type. Move-out cleans typically run longer than recurring service because inspection standards are higher.
First-time clients get 50% off the second cleaning when the first is booked.
