Perry is the town in our service area that kept what it had. It was laid out in 1869 as a railroad town on the North Raccoon River, and when the 1913 Hotel Pattee and the 1904 Carnegie Library wore out, Perry restored them instead of tearing them down. Nearly 8,000 people live here, within a few hundred of the count in 2010, and most of them live in houses that were already standing when their grandparents were young.
The numbers say it plainly. One in three Perry homes was built before 1940, a higher share than Des Moines or Marshalltown, and seven in ten were built before 1980. Fewer than one home in twelve has gone up since 2010. Cleaning here is not about quartz and glass shower doors. It is about painted trim with a century of layers, plaster walls, radiators, original windows with real sills, and hardwood that wants a damp mop and not a wet one.
We are a locally owned company run by Stephanie and Tony Dacey, based in Urbandale, about 40 minutes southeast of Perry on Highway 141. Diamond House Cleaning is locally owned and fully insured, and every cleaner who enters your home is background-checked.
Old house, small house: what changes when we clean in Perry
Two things are true of most Perry homes. They are older than almost anything in the metro, and they are smaller. Both change how we work and what you pay.
A house built in 1915 does not get dirty the way a 2019 ranch does, and it does not come clean the same way either. The work is in the details: tall baseboards, door and window casings, built-ins, radiator fins, the tops of picture rails, and stair balusters. Old finishes do not tolerate harsh chemicals, and old hardwood does not tolerate standing water. We know the difference, and we bring products for old houses when we come to Perry.
The most common house in Perry is a two-bedroom. More than half of the homes here have two bedrooms or fewer. In a lot of them, our $125 minimum visit is the whole bill for a standard clean, and we would rather tell you that up front than have you assume we are priced for West Des Moines.
The oldest houses in Perry are on the grid the railroad laid out in 1869, around Willis Avenue and the blocks either side of downtown. Foursquares, bungalows, and two-story frame houses with original woodwork. We spend our time on trim, sills, built-ins, and the corners an open-plan house does not have, and we skip the harsh chemicals on old finishes.
About a third of Perry homes were built between 1950 and 1979, most of them ranches and split-levels on the edges of the old plat. These are the steady middle of our recurring work: solid houses, often on a second or third owner, that mostly want a consistent every-other-week clean and a deep clean once or twice a year.
More than a third of Perry households rent, and about one home in five is in a duplex, fourplex, or small apartment building. We clean them the same way we clean a house, and our apartment cleaning is priced by the space you actually have. We are used to landlord access, lockboxes, and the standard a deposit inspection expects.

Perry is small enough that we cover the whole city, but it helps to know where we are most often.
Downtown and Willis Avenue
Perry's downtown is anchored by the Hotel Pattee, opened in 1913 by Harry and William Pattee in honor of their father and restored a century later with 40 individually themed rooms, and by the Carnegie Library, built in 1904 and brought back to its 1910 appearance. The blocks around them hold the city's oldest homes. Our most detail-heavy work in Perry is here.
The original plat
The 1869 town site ran from Estella Street north to Dewey Avenue and from 3rd Street east to 8th, and the streets inside and just beyond that rectangle are where most of Perry's pre-1940 houses stand, with Pattee Park, the city's largest, and its band shell at the west edge. Two-story frame houses, bungalows, and the occasional brick foursquare, most of them on their fourth or fifth owner.
Wiese Park and the newer edges
Wiese Park on Pattee Street, next to the McCreary Community Building, went in during the 1990s, and the ranches and split-levels between the old plat and the edge of town are the mid-century core of our recurring work. What little new construction Perry has is out here too: fewer than one home in twelve has been built since 2010, so a new house in Perry is genuinely rare.
The trail, the river, and the north side
The Raccoon River Valley Trail north loop runs through Perry on its way between Dawson and Minburn, part of an 89-mile paved loop, with a trailhead at the Forest Park Museum south of Highway 141. Perkins Park sits on an old raised railroad bed on the west side. The homes along the trail and toward the river are a mix of every era Perry has, and we clean all of them.
It does not matter which part of the city you are in. If you are in Perry, we cover you.
The services Perry households book most
Deep cleaning for older homes
One in three Perry homes predates 1940 and seven in ten predate 1980, so this is the heart of what we do here. A deep cleaning covers painted trim and tall baseboards, radiator fins, the tops of built-ins, door frames and picture rails, window sills and storm-window tracks, grout, and inside the oven and fridge. It is where we recommend starting in any house you did not get to clean empty.
Recurring cleaning, weekly or every other week
The steady core of our Perry work. Our recurring cleaning clients get the same crew each visit, so nobody has to be re-briefed on the dog, the back-door key, or which room is off limits. Nearly three in ten Perry households have children at home, and we schedule around school pickups, practices, and shift work.
Move-in and move-out cleaning
Perry is not a turnover town, only one in ten residents moved in the past year, but more than a third of households rent, and a rental changes hands eventually. Our move out cleaning is done to the standard a landlord inspection or a buyer's walkthrough actually expects: inside appliances, inside cabinets, baseboards, window tracks, and every bathroom. The same clean, done the day before you move into a 1920s house, is the best start it can get.
Apartment, duplex, and small-home cleaning
About one in eight Perry homes is in a building of five or more units, another one in ten is a duplex, triplex, or fourplex, and a few dozen are mobile homes. Our apartment cleaning is priced by the rooms you have, not a flat rate, and our $125 minimum covers most one- and two-bedroom units in full.
Why Perry households hire us
Perry is far enough out that most Des Moines cleaning companies will not come, and small enough that the ones who do are often one person with a car. We are neither.
- We make the drive. Our team is based in Urbandale, about 40 minutes down Highway 141. Perry is a regular stop on our schedule, not a special request, and there is no travel fee. You reach us at 515-513-3187, not a call center.
- We know old houses. Perry has the highest share of pre-1940 homes of any city we serve. We bring the right products for old paint, plaster, and hardwood, and we do not learn on your woodwork.
- We price the house you have. More than half of Perry homes have two bedrooms or fewer. You pay for the rooms in your house, not for a metro average, and for a lot of Perry homes the $125 minimum is the whole visit.
- We work while you are at work. A third of Perry's workers commute out of Dallas County. We are used to back-door keys, lockboxes, and a note on the counter.
- We are insured and background-checked. Every cleaner is vetted before they set foot in a client's house, apartment, or duplex.
- You get the same crew. Wherever possible we keep the same cleaners on the same home. That familiarity is most of what makes recurring service worth paying for.
- No contracts. Reschedule, skip a visit, or change your plan whenever you need to. We never charge a cancellation fee.
What it costs
We do not publish a single flat rate for Perry because a two-bedroom bungalow off Willis Avenue, a 1960s ranch by Wiese Park, and a four-bedroom two-story are not the same job. What we do publish is our actual math: $50 per hour with a $125 minimum, estimated by the number of rooms and the type of clean.
Here is the honest version for Perry. The most common house in town is a two-bedroom, and fewer than one home in five has four or more bedrooms. That means for a lot of Perry homes the $125 minimum is the whole bill for a standard recurring clean. An older home with a lot of trim and woodwork takes longer than a newer one of the same size on the first visit, and we will tell you that up front rather than after the fact. There is no travel fee for Perry.
First-time clients get 50% off the second cleaning when the first is booked. No promo code, no catch.
